Gang Concept
The standard gang is made up of one to two Deere 120C excavators equipped with a RCE Tie Head, RCE Tamper Head and 9” Cribbing Bucket. Gang size can be as large as 4 or 5 machines, depending on the size of the tie replacement project. The RCE Off Track Tie Gang System can offer you a cost effective way to complete Tie replacement track maintenance without the need to stop trains.

Basic Process
The basic process of the gang is as follows

  1. The first machine travels along side the track and starts removing ties with a cribbing bucket

  2. The second machine follows and inserts new ties using the RCE Tie Head

  3. The first machine then attaches the RCE Tamper Head and tamps the new ties.

All of these operations are completed under a Form B the equipment swings into the clear and the trains are allowed to pass during this process. This allows the transportation department to keep trains moving and the maintenance of the track in high traffic areas to be completed.
