Tie Gang

The RCE Off Track Tie Gang provides the railroad industry with an innovative approach to tie replacement! Combining the proven reliability and latest technology of a John Deere excavator with specialized hydraulic attachments, the Tie Gang process provides the ability to replace ties without the need for stopping trains.

The standard gang is comprised of two Deere 200D excavators equipped with a RCE Tie Head, RCE Tamper Head and 9" Cribbing Bucket. Gang size can be as large as 4 or 5 machines, depending on the size of the tie replacement project.

The basic process of the Tie Gang is as follows:
1. The first machine travels along side the track and starts removing ties using the RCE Tie Head.
2. The second machine follows and inserts new ties using the RCE Tie Head.
3. The first machine then attachs the RCE Tamper Head and tamps the new ties.

All of these operations are completed under a Form B. The equipment swings into the clear and the trains are allowed to pass during this process. This allows the transportation department to keep trains moving and the maintenance of the track in high traffic areas to be completed.
